Aftrican Sex Worker Meeting

The Network of Sex Work Projects and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance with support from the Global Coalition on Women and Aids is pleased to announce a three day meeting for African sex workers to be held in conjuction with the regional conference on HIV/Aids, ICASA 2005 in Abuja Nigeria in December.

The meeting will be an opportunity to

  • tell each other about our work in HIV prevention and care and exchange our experiences and concerns.
  • learn more about how HIV is affecting sex workers throughout the region and the responses there are to HIV and commercial sex.
  • identify and prepare a delegation of sex workers from Africa to attend the upcoming meeting of representatives of regional networks of sex work projects to be held in Brussels in 2006.
  • promote networking between those working with and for sex workers in Africa, inlcuding by identifying necessaary resources and potential co-ordination and infrastructure for such a network.
  • The meeting will be held in French and English and translation will be available for other languages as required. It is open to sex workers and financial assistance is available to cover their expenses.

It is also open to NGO workers that accompany a sex worker and who are sponsored by the conference or their own project
