Sex Work Criminalised in Tasmania

The New Tasmanian Laws have passed smoothly through the conservative dominated upper house of Tasmanian Parliament (18th October 2005) and after their (guaranteed) passage through the lower house. We have been advised by the Attorney Generals Office that the laws will not take affect for about 6 months time, so early 2006. It has been a difficult and gruelling time for the sex worker activists who have lobbied, written submissions and worked round the clock to educate the politicians who have been deciding their fate. Scarlet Alliance pays tribute to these sex workers and thanks them for their efforts.
