West Australian Parliament, Legislative Council Hansard, Sex Industry Law Reform Debate, Dec 1999

Griffiths (ALP), Watson (Greens), Davenport (ALP), Cowdell (ALP), Ravlich (ALP), Nevill (ALP), Kelly (Democrats) and Foss (Liberals) debate in the Western Australian Legislative Council the punitive measures proposed by the then Liberal State Government against sex workers in Western Australia in 1999. The Labor Party backflipped in 2002 by introducing tight licencing laws against the sex industry. In 2003 the Liberals (in opposition), Greens and One Nation opposed the licensing regime and the legislation was not passed. In 2006 the Labor Government considered law reform again, however the punitive laws that were eventually passed in 2000 are yet to be repealed.
